UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist 2027 - 127 Posts, Fee Rs 200 and Women Pay Nothing (Notice 01/2027-GEOL)
The Union Public Service Commission has notified the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 - 127 posts across the Geological Survey of India and the Central Ground Water Board. Examination Notice No. 01/2027-GEOL, dated 2 September 2026. Applications close 22 SEPTEMBER 2026. JAMMU IS A PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION CENTRE - AND YOU MUST APPLY EARLY TO KEEP IT. UPSC allots centres on a FIRST-APPLY-FIRST-ALLOT basis, and once a centre reaches its ceiling it is frozen. Jammu is one of the twenty-one Preliminary centres. Chandigarh and Delhi are the nearest alternatives if Jammu freezes. There is no Srinagar centre, and no request for a change of centre is granted afterwards. If you want to sit this in Jammu, apply in the first days, not the last. Note also that the MAIN examination is held at only nine centres, and Jammu is NOT among them - the Main centres are Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and SHIMLA. Shimla or Delhi would be the nearest for the Main stage in June 2027. THE FEE IS Rs 200, AND WOMEN PAY NOTHING. SC, ST and PwBD candidates are also exempt. This is among the cheapest Group A examinations in the country. WHAT THE 127 POSTS ARE Category-I, Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines - 111 posts: Assistant Geophysicist Group B 35, Assistant Geologist Group B 34, Geologist Group A 29, Chemist Group A 07, Assistant Chemist Group B 06, and Geophysicist Group A - ZERO. That last one is not an error; UPSC has advertised the Geophysicist Group A post with 00 vacancies this year. Category-II, Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti - 16 posts: Assistant Hydrogeologist Group B 07, Scientist B (Hydrogeology) Group A 05, Scientist B (Chemical) 01, Scientist B (Geophysics) 01, Assistant Chemist Group B 01, Assistant Geophysicist Group B 01. Ten of the 127 are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability. WHO CAN APPLY: this is a specialist examination. You need a Master's degree in the relevant science - Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies and similar for the geology posts, with corresponding requirements in physics, geophysics and chemistry for the other streams. Read the post-wise qualification in the notice before you apply - each of the twelve posts has its own. AGE: 21 to 32 as on 1 January 2027. You must have been born not earlier than 2 January 1995 and not later than 1 January 2006. Relaxations apply for reserved categories and ex-servicemen. THE TIMELINE IS LONG. Preliminary examination 10 JANUARY 2027. Main examination 19 and 20 JUNE 2027. Then a Personality Test. Candidates called for the Personality Test number about twice the vacancies. Appointments are made on a temporary basis in the first instance, and UPSC records that the vacancy numbers are liable to alteration. You must have a Universal Registration Number on upsconline.nic.in before you can fill the examination-specific form. The URN is generated once in a lifetime and is reused for every UPSC examination - if you do not have one, create it now rather than on the 22nd.

UPSC has notified this post with ZERO vacancies this year. It is listed, but there is nothing to be recruited against it. Eight of these are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability - one Geologist (OA/OL), one Chemist (HH), two Assistant Geologist (one OA/OL, one HH), three Assistant Geophysicist (HH), one Assistant Chemist (HH). EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION - POST BY POST This is a specialist examination and each of the twelve posts carries its own qualification. For Geologist Group A in GSI, for example, a Master's degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies or an equivalent discipline is required. The geophysics, chemistry and hydrogeology posts carry their own corresponding requirements in physics, geophysics, chemistry and applied geology. Read the post-wise qualification in the notice against the specific post you intend to apply for. Candidates must satisfy themselves that they meet the criteria for EACH post they apply to. AGE 21 to 32 years as on 1 January 2027 - born not earlier than 2 January 1995 and not later than 1 January 2006. Upper age relaxable up to five years for Government servants and further as prescribed for reserved categories. The notice states the age limits can in no case be relaxed beyond what is provided. RESERVATION For SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates as fixed by Government. Community reservation applies only where the candidate's caste appears in the Central Government list; EWS benefit requires the prescribed certificate. JAMMU is one of the 21 Preliminary centres. Chandigarh and Delhi are the nearest alternatives. The MAIN examination has only nine centres and Jammu is not one - Shimla and Delhi are nearest. FEE Rs 200 only. FEMALE CANDIDATES PAY NOTHING. SC, ST and Persons with Benchmark Disability are also exempt. Payment by net banking, Visa, MasterCard or RuPay card, or UPI. No other mode is valid, and an application without the fee is summarily rejected unless remission is claimed.
