Indian Railways has opened its Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent recruitment for the year through Centralised Employment Notice 04/2026, covering 3,993 seats spread across every Railway Recruitment Board. For candidates in Jammu & Kashmir the relevant board is Jammu-Srinagar, which holds 152 of those seats - the deepest diploma-level opening in the region right now. Unusually for a J&K allocation, most of it is unreserved: 86 seats are Open Merit, against OBC 27, SC 16, ST 12 and EWS 11, with a further 15 earmarked for ex-servicemen and 7 under the disability quota. The grade is Level-6, starting at Rs 35,400 basic. Applications run from 14 August to 13 September 2026. Worth knowing at the outset - the board you apply through governs the examination, not the posting, and much of this particular allocation belongs to Rail Coach Factory and Northern Railway. CORRIGENDUM-1, DATED 18 AUGUST 2026 The Railway Recruitment Boards have amended CEN 04/2026 and the total is now 4,029, not the 3,993 first notified. The notice title changes accordingly, to Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent AND CHEMICAL & METALLURGICAL ASSISTANT. The 36 additional seats break down as 35 Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts and one extra Junior Engineer/Electrical/TRS seat at RRB Secunderabad. Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant is a new post in this notice, and it is not a diploma-engineering route: the qualification is a B.Sc degree taken with Physics and Chemistry as subjects. Level-6, initial basic Rs 35,400, medical standard B-1, age 18 to 33 as on 01.01.2027. The 35 seats sit with six boards - Chennai 15 (Southern Railway 11, ICF 4), Bhopal 7 (WCR), Patna 7 (Rail Wheel Plant), Guwahati 4 (NFR), Bengaluru 1 (Rail Wheel Factory) and Prayagraj 1 (NCR). RRB Jammu-Srinagar receives none of them, and its 152 posts stand as first notified. The corrigendum additionally defines medical standard B-2, which the original notice cited without setting out. It makes no change to the dates - applications still close on 13 September 2026.

Registration is handled at rrbapply.gov.in and nowhere else, and each candidate picks a single RRB; for the 152 seats described here that choice is Jammu-Srinagar, and it cannot be revised afterwards. The window opened 14 August 2026 and shuts at 23:59 on 13 September, with fee payment permitted until 15 September and a correction window from 16 to 25 September charged at Rs 250 each time, never refunded. Before paying, open Annexure-A for the qualification tied to your category number and Annexure-B for the vacancy table. One expectation to set honestly: applying through the Jammu-Srinagar board does not mean working in J&K, since a large part of this allocation sits with Rail Coach Factory and Northern Railway.
